Signal Drift explores what happens when control is given over to unstable, interconnected systems. Electrical signals pass through liquids, medicines, metals, biological materials, analogue circuits and computational processes, allowing each material to influence the behaviour of the whole.Medicines and other substances are administered not simply as symbols but as active agents that alter conductivity, sound, rhythm, image and material transformation. Inspired by cybernetics, complexity theory and early scientific experimentation, the project approaches the artwork as a system that can be steered but never completely controlled. Small interventions can produce unexpectedly large consequences, echoing the sensitivity to initial conditions found in chaotic systems. The principle that “the dose makes the poison” becomes a broader question about how the effect of an action is not necessarily proportional to its size. Electrolysis and electrochemical processes make these interactions physically visible, leaving traces, deposits, corrosion and patterns on metal surfaces. Sound and image translate the same unstable processes into perceptible signals, revealing continuous exchanges between noise, order, feedback and emergence.
Ultimately, Signal Drift asks whether uncertainty and instability can be understood not simply as failures of control, but as conditions through which new forms, behaviours and relationships can emerge.
